Texas Ophthalmologist Dr. Raul Peña Offers Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Eye Surgery, and More at His McAllen Center

Dr. Raul Peña is an experienced Texas ophthalmologist and provider of conductive keratoplasty (CK) eye surgery, Zyoptix™ refractive surgery, and glaucoma surgery and treatments at his McAllen office. He also provides blade-free LASIK, Custom blade-free LASIK, and intraocular lens implants for patients who wish to improve their vision or are seeking treatment for cataracts.

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Surgery

If you are tired of reading glasses, not being able to see the menu, the computer, your cell phone, or your watch, at our Texas office, conductive keratoplasty (CK) eye surgery is a refractive correction alternative to LASIK.

CK eye surgery is a FDA approved treatment for presbyopia, the diminishing ability to focus at a variety of distances. Presbyopia begins after the age of 40 and is caused by the stiffening of the eye’s crystalline lens and the weakening of the muscles that move the lens.

While blade-free LASIK and many other types of refractive surgery at our Texas office rely on laser technology, conductive keratoplasty surgery takes a completely different approach to vision correction. CK eye surgery at our McAllen office uses radio frequency energy to reshape the cornea and improve focusing ability.

During CK eye surgery, radio frequency energy is used to precisely shrink corneal tissue. This allows light to focus properly on the retina, eliminating or reducing farsightedness and presbyopia and improving visual clarity. Conductive keratoplasty surgery is virtually painless, and patients should be able to return to their normal activities the day after the procedure. Vision improves immediately after the procedure and will continue to fine-tune itself over the next few weeks. If you have considered reducing your dependence on glasses and contact lenses with vision correction surgery but are concerned about the level of invasiveness involved, or are seeking a treatment for presbyopia, conductive keratoplasty, or CK, eye surgery at our McAllen office could be right for you.

Glaucoma Treatments

Glaucoma Surgery

The purpose of glaucoma surgery, whether it involves laser treatments or filtering microsurgery, is to reduce the intraocular pressure that causes glaucoma. The type and severity of your glaucoma and the health of your eyes will likely determine the course of treatment that Dr. Peña recommends in your individual case. During laser surgery, a tiny beam of light is used to help drain the trabecular meshwork, the eye’s drainage system, and reduce pressure in order to ease glaucoma symptoms. In his McAllen, Texas office, Dr. Peña may also recommend filtering microsurgery. This type of surgery utilizes a small surgical tool in order to create a drainage hole for intraocular fluids. This treatment is usually recommended when laser surgery is unsuccessful.
